High potential and gifted education (HPGE)

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

High potential and gifted education domains

Our HPGE program supports students across four key domains: Academic, Creative, Physical, and Social-Emotional. Each domain provides tailored opportunities to challenge and extend students’ abilities, helping them reach their full potential.

The social-emotional domain

This domain addresses the development of interpersonal skills, emotional awareness, and resilience. Gifted students may have heightened sensitivities or emotional intensities, so support focuses on helping them manage feelings, build healthy relationships, and develop self-confidence while navigating social environments.

The physical domain

The physical domain relates to advanced abilities in motor skills, coordination, and athleticism. High potential in this area includes talents in sports, dance, or other physical activities. Support involves opportunities to develop physical skills and achieve excellence through targeted training and participation.

The creative domain

This domain focuses on fostering students' ability to think imaginatively and innovatively. It encourages originality, curiosity, and the capacity to generate new ideas or approaches. Creative students often excel in artistic activities, problem-solving, and inventiveness.

The intellectual domain

The intellectual domain involves advanced cognitive abilities such as critical thinking, reasoning, and deep understanding. Students in this domain exhibit strong analytical skills and a capacity to grasp complex concepts quickly. Education for intellectual giftedness includes challenges that promote higher-order thinking and knowledge extension.
