Learning and support
Learning
Explore our diverse subjects and effective teaching strategies designed to support every student's learning journey!
At our school, we teach the NSW curriculumopen_in_new and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.
Our school uses explicit teaching. This means we clearly tell students what they are learning, why it is important and how to do it step by step. Explicit teaching helps students understand new ideas by breaking them into smaller parts.
Learning at our school is student-centred, inclusive and practical. We are committed to equity and access. We support all learning styles and needs. Our teachers use proven teaching strategies. They take part in ongoing professional development to stay up to date with best teaching practice.
Our learning approach includes:
- real-world learning: hands-on tasks, group work and exploring new ideas
- technology: to help students learn and build digital skills
- flexible teaching: the right support for each student, with a focus on wellbeing
- community connections: through excursions and local programs.

Through these approaches, Lansvale East Public School creates supportive and inclusive learning environments where students are challenged, supported and encouraged to progress confidently along their learning journey.
Wellbeing
At Lansvale East Public School, supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is an integral part of everyday school life. We recognise that students learn best when they feel safe, supported, included and connected.
We support student wellbeing through:

- clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships, consistently reinforced across classrooms and playgrounds
- strong partnerships with families, with staff working closely with parents and carers to support individual student needs
- individual health care and learning support plans, developed in collaboration with families and specialist services where required
Through these approaches, Lansvale East Public School fosters a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where all students are encouraged to thrive, develop confidence and achieve their full potential.
Additional learning support
At Lansvale East Public School, we ensure every student is ready to learn. We support students with disability and additional learning needs to fully participate in all aspects of school life. A formal diagnosis is not required for your child to receive support in a mainstream classroom. Support can commence at any stage of your child’s schooling.
Support that fits your child’s needs
At Lansvale East Public School, we understand that some students need extra support to feel confident and do their best at school. We work closely with families to develop support plans and adjustments that suit each child’s individual needs.
Additional learning support can include:
- Teachers and support staff collaborating with families (and students, if appropriate)
- Specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- Providing tailored programs to help high potential and gifted students meet their advanced learning needs
- Small group tutoring to deliver targeted literacy and numeracy support
We also provide regular check-ins to review and update support plans.
Changes to the classrooms may include:
- Accessible classrooms
- Assistive technology
- Instructional resources tailored to student needs
- Extra guidance, simplified content, or different focus during lessons
Assessment adjustments may involve:
- Additional time
- Simplified language
- Breaks during tasks
- Alternative ways to complete tasks (e.g. oral presentations instead of written tasks)
We identify when a student needs help through:
- Teachers noticing changes in learning or behaviour
- Reviewing assessment results and learning progress
- Parents and carers raising concerns or requesting support
Adjustments are planned in partnership with parents and carers, reviewed regularly, and adjusted as needed. If you think your child may benefit from extra support, please contact us.
Our Learning Support Team (LST) at Lansvale East Public School ensures that every student receives the support they need at the right time. The team collaborates with families, teachers, and support staff to:
- Understand each student’s specific learning and wellbeing needs
- Plan adjustments and tailored supports
- Monitor student progress closely
- Connect with external services when necessary
Our Learning and Support Team may include:

Religion and ethics
NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.
During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.
You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
At Lansvale East Public School, SRE is delivered on Fridays from 9:00am – 9:30am for all K–6 students.
On enrolment, parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to the principal, in writing.
The following SRE classes are offered at Lansvale East Public School:
- Catholic SRE is provided by the Catholic Diocese of Sydney. For more information about Catholic SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit the Catholic Diocese of Sydney website.
- Islamic SRE is provided by the Islamic Council of NSW. For more information about Islamic SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit the Islamic Special Religious Education website.
During the time that SRE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space and will participate in meaningful activities, such as independent reading, quiet study or homework, educational games or puzzles, creative writing or journaling, art and drawing, and mindfulness or relaxation exercises. These activities are supervised to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all students.
